Chapelle St Probace - 83170 Tourves
Saint Probace came to finish his life in Provence,in 2nd century and specifically south of Tourves, on top of the hill where he settled. When he died he was buried there, and a chapel was built over his tomb. The chapel was then managed by a community of hermits. In 1019, the shrine and chapel is mentioned in a charter of the abbey of Saint-Victor.
In 1643, a new larger chapel was built to replace the old one, then abandoned. It is the present chapel, which bears that date over the door. During construction, a human body was discovered. After careful examination, we came to the conclusion that this body was indeed that of Saint Probace.
today~the site is occupied by 'Little Brothers of the Eucharist' a men's contemplative and eremitical community, founded in 1994 in the United Sates.
