Padua Cathedral (Padova)

Italy / Veneto / Padova
 cathedral, interesting place

It is the third edifice built in the same site. The first one was erected after the Edict of Milan in 313 and destroyed by an earthquake on January 3, 1117. Rebuilt in Romanesque style, the successive edifice was demolished in starting from 1551 according to a design by Michelangelo: the appearance of the medieval church can be seen in the frescoes by Giusto de' Menabuoi in the annexed Baptistry. The construction works of the Renaissance edifice were completed in 1754, but the façade remained unfinished.
