The Village for Families & Children is a private, Connecticut non-profit human services agency founded in 1809, and is committed to building a community of strong, healthy families who protect and nurture children. Through its work with children and families, the Village has emerged as a preeminent mental health/human service agency serving the Hartford region and the state of Connecticut. Village services encompass three core areas of strength: Placement and Permanency (adoption, foster care and family preservation), Treatment, and Family and Community Support.

The campus began life as the Hartford Orphan Asylum, which was built in 1923 to replace their earlier location on Putnam Avenue. The facility is notable for its use of the then-popular "cottage plan" layout; a number of small cottages housing smaller groups of children, rather than large dormitory-like buildings with all occupants in close proximity. The buildings are the work of New York architect Grosvenor Atterbury. The 32-acre facility is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (#82004404) for its architectural and social significance.
