The faculty was begun under the name of" High Institute of Energy " by Ministerial Decree No. 796 in 9/8/1989 to prepare the specialist engineer in serving the electricity and energy fields who is able to accommodate modern technology in these fields in short time, to deal with it at the sites efficiently, to keep up with its continuing international developments and seeing the modern technology Constantly. The decision No. 109 on 23/4/1996 was issued from the Supreme Council of Universities , which provides for the equivalent of bachelor's degree granted by the High Institute for Energy with its counterpart, which awarded by the Egyptian universities .The High Institute of Energy was annexed to the University of South Valley in 2006,the name of the institute changes to Faculty of Energy engineering by the Supreme Council of Universities in May 2011.
