  • can it be fished? is it open to the public...any pics?
  • Lake Weil is a privately owned NYS Licensed fishing preserve (White Rock Preserve) for members only.
  • I think the murderer's name was Tom Leary. Weil is shallow and swampy and at one time dried out. I don't think the White Rock property owns the whole lake. Some of it is on the Ramah (old Keew-Wah) grounds and the lower swampy end is close by Weil Road. Skeeter heaven in Summer.
  • Your step- grandfather Mr. Weil was a famous engineer who helped John Holland build the first submarines for the US Navy (?). Mr. Weil acquired a large estate and built the lake of his namesake. Fifty years ago as a Harlem Valley staffer's brat I trespassed almost everywhere in the area. At the Webatauk Inn many years ago an old timer told me the story of Tom Leary, one of the estate employees, who murdered his wife in a fit of jealousy. His ghost still haunts the area.
  • Lake Weil is a man made lake built by my (step) grandfather, Joseph D. Weil. It does not dry out naturally but has been drained periodically in the past. Camp Ramah to the north has no lake rights.
