Château Lou Seuil

France / Provence-Alpes-Cote-dAzur / Eze /
 villa, interesting place

aka; Chateau Balsan. The villa was built in 1920 by the Parisian landscape designer Achille Duchêne on behalf of Colonel Jacques Balsan for his wife Consuelo Vanderbilt , divorced from the 9th Duke of Marlborough. "Lou Seuil", as it was called in the beginning, is conceived like a monastery, with its cloister used as winter garden, its bell-tower and its chapel. The Convent of Le Thoronet in Provence was the Balsan's inspiration for Lou Seuil. Subsequently, Consuelo's mother Alva Belmont would purchase the neighboring Villa Isoletta. In 1985, a forest fire damaged the pavement and destroyed South and East galleries glazing.
