The Ujarma fortress (Ujarma C`ixe, უჯარმა ციხე), was built in the 5th century as a royal residence, was destroyed by an Arab invasion in the 10th century, and was rebuilt in the 12th century as a royal treasury. Although ruined, the fortress' remains are impressive, include a medieval church, water reservoirs, and several tall remnants of towers, and offer views over the Iori valley. The fortress is located about 4 km north of the modern town of Ujarma.
