Situated in the city of Tariba, Estate of Tachira, Venezuela, this downhill block is known by the above name because, at the end of the XIX century, in one of its houses, there lived a gentleman named Don José Gregorio López Niño with his wife and ten children, seven of whom were young women (hence the street name “La Bajada de Las Lopez”). The colonial residence still exists and the current owner, Don Antonio Lopez, dwells therein with his descendants. The building withstood the 1875 earthquake in Cucuta, Colombia, and is historically known by locals to have been, at the beginning of the XIXth century, used as an inn by travellers and coffee traders. These would bring their produce loads from the fertile mountains of Tachira, in order to sell them to the house owner at the time, Don José Gregorio. He would then proceed to export the coffee beans to Europe and other markets via the Port of Maracaibo, in Venezuela. os
