Also known as Seven Mile Pond. Floodwaters of the Thunder Bay River, created by the Seven Mile and Four Mile Dams immediately downstream. The Thunder Bay River falls 689 feet from its headwaters on the Northern Michigan Plateau near Lewiston to Lake Huron at Alpena. Much of the elevation change previously occurred over a whitewater stretch known as the Long Rapids, which is now drowned under Lake Winyah.
