Maximum height is 716 meters. During the 1960's it was discovered that the atmospheric concentration of Radon 220 (also known as Thoron, a radioactive decay product of Thorium) was increased at Port aux Francais when the wind was coming from the northwest-northeast sector. Since the half life of Thoron is only about 55 seconds, it was originating fairly nearby. One of the sites subsequently investigated was the eastern face of Montagnes Vertes. A number of specimens were collected from this area.
