Prisoner Railcar Unloading Area (Auschwitz II Camp) (Brzezinka)

Poland / Malopolskie / Brzeszcze / Brzezinka
Second World War 1939-1945, interesting place, train station, historic landmark

Upon unloading from the freightcars, here the passengers were rapidly sorted into two categories: those seeming strong enough for hard labor, and everyone else. The latter ---including the children, the wounded, the old, and those deemed unfit at a glance by the trackside SS medical staff--- were herded to the path just south of here and then along it a short trudge westward to the nearby undressing area to wait their turn at mass killing in the gas chamber buildings. The "fit" (usually around 30% of the new-arrived people) were processed to barracks (to be killed more slowly: worked to death).
