Founded in 1995 as a nonprofit community-based organization to honor aviation pioneers, the Flight Path Museum and Learning Center came into being in November 2002 by way of a Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners authorization for the group to utilize airfield facilities to celebrate the 75th anniversary of LAX and the 100th anniversary of the first powered flight by the Wright Brothers. Housed in the Imperial Terminal, a facility utilized by World Airways, MGM Airways and a number of other carriers for both scheduled and charter passenger services, the Flight Path Museum and Learning Center is the only aviation museum and research center situated at a major airport and the only facility with a primary emphasis on contributions of civil aviation to the history and development of Southern California.
