Leavenworth, Washington

USA / Washington / Leavenworth /

Formerly a sleepy mountain town that wasn't incredibly remarkable apart from the logging industry, in 1962 Leavenworth decided to change all that, by becoming... A Ye olde Bavarian Village. They passed a law that every business in downtown Leavenworth, had to have something Bavarian about it. Going east on route 2,as you enter the towne, you will notice a row of hotels and a Ye olde Bavarian 76 gas station, then later on a Bavarian Todo Mexico, a McDonalds and a Bavarian Safeway, intersperced with many small businesses. It does have a rather quaint feeling to it, yet it also seems a little ridiculous seeing as it is a town in the Pacific Northwest rather than one in Germany. But don't let this get in the way of your fun, it is kind of a fun experience going around the all the little shoppes along the main street. There's also this really nice park there that goes along the Wenatchee river, where if you come at the right time, you can see salmon spawning. Check it out some time.

The mountain views are beautiful here. Make sure to stop and look around, even if you don't take part in the tourist offerings the town has.
