Weavers Cove LNG

This is the proposed site of the Weavers Cove Liquefied Natural Gas import terminal. This facility has been approved by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. There is substantial controversy over the facility because of its proximity to residences. The citizens of Fall River are nearly unanimously against it, as are most communities along the inland waterways leading to Fall River. Weaver's Cove LNG has mounted an ad campaign to sway public opinion in favor of the project, and Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney has indicated that he will fully support the project.

Just the facts, people, no editorializing like this previous entry:
"However, NIMBY politicians and fear mongering local opponents are holding up demolition of a bridge which might impede LNG tankers from calling at this much needed port. We all hope the citizens of Fall River don't mind freezing in the dark."

The world LNG industry standards, as published in, "Site Selection and Design for LNG Ports and Jetties," by the Society of International Gas Terminal and Tanker Operators (SIGTTO), warn against siting LNG terminals where LNG vapors from a spill along the shipping route or from the terminal could affect civilian populations. (Virtually the entire world LNG industry belongs to SIGTTO.)
