Wardang Island forms a natural breakwater to the coastal town of Port Victoria on the Yorke Peninsula.

Aboriginal word for crow. Named Ile Dalberg by Baudin (1802) after Joseph-Wolfgang-Héribert de Dalberg; Duke of Dalberg, a minister and a peer of France by King Louis XVIII. Its Aboriginal name is Wauraltee, meaning 'Bandicoot'. This name has now been given to a nearby reef.
