Extensive wooded trails in this preserve lead hikers beneath huge oaks and Tulip trees. Both Great Horned Owls and Broadwinged Hawks have used this mature forest for nesting, and foxes have denned here as well. Besides native ferns and wildflowers some introduced plants of interest are Galax, Hobblebush, Shrub Yellowroot, and Yellow Violets. A recent discovery was Siberian Cranesbill, found nowhere else on Long Island. A few open vine-draped areas attract resident and migrant songbirds, and, after absence of many years, Ring-necked Pheasants have been seen on the paths.
