This is the most important saline lake for migrant shorebirds in Timor-Leste. Combined with data from colleagues a total of 60 waterbird and coastal seabirds have been recorded including 30 Palearctic migratory shorebird species. The highest single Palaearctic migratory shorebird count has been only 345 birds in December 2003, but more than 100 individual birds are usually present in the migrant season, with very high turnover."
