Eşrefoğlu Mosque (Beyşehir)

Turkey / Konya / Beysehir / Beyşehir

Also known as the Great Mosque of Beyşehir and one of the oldest mosques in Turkey, built by the Eshrefid dynasty between 1296–1299. It is considered as one of the masterpieces of the intermediate period of Anatolian beyliks between the Seljuk and Ottoman architecture styles.

The mosque is supported by 46 wooden pillars. There is a huge well in the middle of the mosque. The section above the well has no roof to ensure that rainfall is collected to keep the interior of the mosque humid and to prevent damage to the wooden pillars from over-drying.
