Since 1977, Hasselt has been a merged municipality that besides Hasselt itself also consists of the boroughs of Kermt, Kuringen, Sint-Lambrechts-Herk, Spalbeek, Stevoort, Stokrooie and Wimmertingen. In the territory of Hasselt, next to the center, are the hamlets of Godsheide in the east, Rapertingen in the southeast and Kiewit in the north, which have not yet grown into the city center. The hamlets of Sint-Jansheide, Schimpen and Tuilt are still located in the borough of Kuringen.
