It was 50 years ago, on that empty shore at Tennozu where, during the Edo Period, the No.4 Coastal Defense Battery was located. After getting his hands on the land, Mr. Yasunosuke Terrada purchased steel framing from a bombed out factory and built a warehouse. Later, a road on a causeway and the monorail appeared. Even after Tennozu was selected for waterfront redevelopment, the warehouse remained, watching over the canal that winds through the area. Now, however, the warehouse is a warehouse no more. In 1997 it was refurbished and became a brewery-restaurant.
The setting sun seen from the broad terrace that overlooks the canal hasn't changed in 50 years, but the surrounding scenery has. A boardwalk and bridge have appeared. Tennozu has become a lace where people can enjoy an urban waterfront lifestyle. But T.Y. Harbor's appeal is not confined to its location or to the otherworldly atmosphere of the warehouse. Neither is it just the Neo American foods, the handmade craft beer, or the exceptional wine list. What we sell is time and everything you need to enjoy the time you spend with us, casual dining in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
As you enter the restaurant, you pass a glass window through which you can see a giant aluminum beer tank reaching all the way up to the high ceiling. If you are lucky, you can sit at the bar and watch the beer being finished. It is a great place to wait and sample our brew when the restaurant is crowded.
Leaving the bar, you enter a spacious dining room that doubles as an art space. Only in a renovated warehouse could you fine these fourteen-meter tall ceiling. One white wall is dedicated to displaying the work of young artists, with the works shown changing every one or two months. It is truly an extraordinary space in which the everyday world is left behind as you enter a world dedicated to imagination. Note, too, that during the winter, it is heated, a wonderful place to be whatever the season.
As you sit on the patio, surrounded by the flowers that border the canal, savoring the breeze along with your ale or wine and delicious food, the comfort is indescribable. There is no better place to enjoy a weekend brunch. ( Please do note, however, that we often have parties on weekends. We are sorry for the inconvenience, but do call for a reservation. Note, too: The waterfront is open from May to October. During the colder months, glass screens, ceiling heaters, and blankets make it possible to dine al fresco, while enjoying the winter sky.)
T.Y.Harbor is restaurant combines the most creative elements of European, North American and Pacific Rim dishes in its own distinctive version of California cuisine. To this memorable dining experience, it adds beer with the unique quality and taste of brewing methods imported from San Francisco. Try it and taste the difference for yourself.
