This golf course was developed on the area formerly used as the fairgrounds and in the early 1900's there was a horse race track located on a portion of the course. The impression of the old race track can be seen in the aerial photo to the of the polygon. The golf course is contiguous with Spring Park that is still used today for community events, political rallies and family picnics. During the civil war this area was used as an encampment for new enlisted troops. This area was used for training of these new troops.
