Rossel Island

Rossel Island is the easternmost of the larger islands, and the second largest island in the Louisiade Archipelago of Papua New Guinea. Its traditional name is Yela. With an area of 262.5 km², its population was estimated at 3,000 (1978). The highest elevation is Mount Rossel, near the eastern end of the island, which rises 838 metres.
