This is where my friends Waheed Waseem and Naseem Naeem lived. Naseem's father was Agriculture Inspector and their neighbor on left side was a retired Police Officer's son Afzal. All of them should be approaching their early sixties now. Naseem had moved to Karachi in early 1970s, working for I think, Karachi Port Trust. In late 1960s when I was pursuing my Master's Degree in Economics from Karachi University, Waheed Waseem also obtained his Master's in Economics.
Those days, we had another common friend Shaikh Javed who obtained his Law Degree (LLB) from Karachi. His father owned a wholesale business in Okara Ghalla Mandi (Grain Market). Javed was very ambitious and wanted to go to USA for higher education, Master of Law (LL.M), which did not materialize. During early 1970s, when I was Manager at Lahore Stock Exchange Limited, Javed explored the possibility of becoming Legal Adviser for the Stock Exchange, but he did not have required expertise.
In Pakistan, it is more important as to "Who you Know", instead of "What you Know". My family was very well connected, therefore to give a Jump Start, I was able to secure a job for Waheed Waseem at the Stock Exchange. Later, Waheed became a Lecturer in a private college in Lahore. I hope they are all doing well including Naseem Naeem and Oliver Naseem whose father was a Padre (priest in a Church) in Okara.
I loved this town and have many memories associated with Okara. Our family owned agricultural lands and fruit orchards (Bagh) in the vicinity of Okara. I grew up in Lahore, but Okara was like a second home for us.
In late 1970s, we moved to USA, and love it here, while my brother and sisters are still settled in Lahore. You can search for uzkmi, through Wikimapia Search Bar on top right and read more about my snippets/tidbits.
