Staffed by trained monkeys. Their management model is based on a complete lack of respect for both the customer and the employee. It's an example of just how much abuse geeks will endure in search of a bargain. Rock-bottom prices are advertised in the Arizona Republic each weekday except Tuesday and Thursday. Ads appear on the back of the Sports or Business sections, except on Friday it's a 8-page foldout. Though Fry's prices are normally competitive with other major electronics chains, the loss-leader prices in the ads are usually the best in town. But you have to consider the "Fry's Factor": 1. They "hide" the sale items in the store (it's a variation of the classic "bait and switch" where you buy the more expensive thing because nobody can find the advertised item). They don't mark the sale items on the shelves, and the employees are totally clueless about where things are in the stores. 2. Returning anything is a huge pain. 3. Remember, rebates are only really worth about half their face value, when you take into account the extra sales tax, postage, hassle, the fact that you can't return the item once you've sent in the UPC, the delay in getting your money, and the risk that they won't honor the rebate for some made-up reason. If you go in search of a deal, make sure you carry the ad with you to the store. One thing positive about Fry's, they often are the best source for obscure electronic accessories, adapters, widgets and whatnot that Best Buy doesn't carry.
