Little San Salvador / Half Moon Cay

Bahamas / Cat Island / Arthurs Town /
 island, waterfowl reserve

Little San Salvador is an island in the Bahamas chain of islands and is part of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas. Totaling about 2,400 acres (9.7 km2), it was completely undeveloped and uninhabited until 1997, when it was purchased by Holland America Cruise Line as a private island retreat for cruise ship passengers.

More commonly known by its adopted name, Half Moon Cay, it is usually a one-day stop on Bahamas cruises for Holland America, Princess Cruises, and Carnival Cruise Lines (all of which are subsidiaries of Carnival Corporation). Cruise ship passengers access the island via cruise tender boats.

The island is also a significant nesting area for waterfowl. To date, only 45 acres (2%) of the island have been developed, the stated overall goal of the cruise line being to maintain as much habitat as possible for wildlife.
