  • A wilderness park with extensive hiking and canoeing opportunities, both with chances for spectacular backcountry experiences. The round quartzite ridges embrace many deep, clear alpine lakes that sometimes seem to glow blue because of the minerals in them. Not as raw a wilderness trip as some of the other Ontario parks; but exceptionally beautiful in many spots. White pines on ridges, hemlock groves, wild blueberry patches, and all the wild fauna you'd expect as well -- bear, wolf, moose, deer.... The 100km loop trail takes you several days into the wilderness, and is usually completed in 6 to 10 days, depending on you hiking experience and fitness. Park officials monitor access to avoid crowding on the trails; so you can most often have a new campsite or even small lake all to yourself or your group.
