The name Fowl Cay dates back more than 100 years to the time when islanders raised chickens as a source of food. Less than one-fourth of the island is developed. It was purchased from an American couple by Sandals Chairman Butch Stewart in 2007 after he and his family vacationed there. Plans for 15 new villas are well underway at Royal Plantation.
