Vovchansk is the administrative center of the Vovchansk City Hromada (community) in the Chuhuiv Raion (district) of the Kharkiv Oblast (region) of Ukraine.
Until the administrative reform of Ukraine in 2020, it was the administrative center of the former Vovchansk Raion (district).
Vovchansk was founded in 1674 as a guarding settlement with the name of Vovchi Vody ('Wolf Waters') or Vovche – due to the same name of the river.
