Established in 1906, Saint Anne's Hospital was founded by the Dominican Sisters, communicants of neighboring Saint Anne's Church and Shrine. The original building has been replaced almost entirely, save for the chapel, with a modern hospital, which is a part of the Caritas healthcare system of Catholic hospitals in Southeastern New England. Until the 1960s, the hospital also operated a nursing school (the southeastern-most wing of the current building).
