Source of the Nomonhan Incident/Battle of Khalkhin Gol, 11MAY-16SEP 1939. Perhaps the first use of Blitzkrieg tactics. Notable participants include Georgi Zhukov of later WWII fame. This can be considered the start of WWII as far as Russo-Japanese conflict goes. Not well known outside of military circles.
