This is a large hill created from 344,250 tons of toxic soil excavated from the Superfund site upon which it sits. It is contaminated with Dioxin [hence the name], pentachlorophenol, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, among other deadly chemicals.
The $25 million cleanup plan implemented involved placing this soil on a concrete cap [which contained 13% of the soil] and covering it with an enormous plastic liner.

"Mount Dioxin is the EPA's third-largest relocation behind Times Beach, Mo., and Love Canal at Niagara Falls, N.Y. All three sites were contaminated with dioxin, which has been linked to cancer and other illnesses." -St. Petersburg Times

The "contained toxins" are "just a few feet above the aquifer that supplies drinking water to hundreds of thousands of county residents." -Citizens Against Toxic Exposure
