Teahupo'o Break

French Polynesia / Iles du Vent / Teahupoo /
 reef, invisible

A surf spot for the über-advanced. It is not the largest wave in terms of height, but it is arguably the heaviest and most massive. People pronounce it Chopoo, but this actually refers to the surf break itself. Teahupo'o (pronounced tay-AH-hopo) is the name of the village nearest the break and means "broken skulls" in Tahitian.

I have ridin this wave 3 times. It's insane! Each Time I tried to come in a wave I would fall and hit the reef. The reef is so shallow on low tides it can be seen out of the water.
