monument, ruins, cultural relic, scheduled ancient monument
The wall enclosing the Walled City was built by the Qing Government in 1847. During the Japanese Occupation it was torn down by Japanese soliders to provide materials for laying the foundation of the Kai Tak Airfield. Two carved granite plaques bearing the characters'南門'(South Gate)and'九龍寨城'(Kowloon Walled City) and the foundation of the South Gate were unearthed. The site of the South Gate had been formally declared a monument.
