  • This is a unique Railway Junction where three different Railway services meet. Metro and Circular Railway start from this very station. Eastern Railway emphasizes quite a lot on this station. Trains are diversified to three different directions (towards Ranaghat, Dankuni and Bongaon). But, this important station quite lacks general amenities for the passengers.

  • It's a horrible Railway Junction Station very inconvenient for passengers using the station at this present moment. 1. My suggestion there should be full display board train information well ahead of up train and down train like Sealdah station on every platform. 2. The foot overhead bridge is like from 1940's not been changed for centuries so narrow, passengers keep waiting on the bridge to see or hear the next train announcement and the platform nos.This is very important today we are in 2012 the volume of passenger is massive,so need to pay attention like Dadar (Mumbai)Foot over bridge 6 times broader than Dum Dum Junction. 3. There should be an elevated track for Bongaon and Hashnabad bound up and down train like Andheri western Railway (Mumbai). Right now most of the trains keep on waiting in station wasting time for Express Trains and goods trains to pass . 4. We can compete with Mumbai if Western Railway can why Eastern Railway can not. Now we have better revenue and we need to improve for passengers benefit and their safety too. Being ordinary citizen of India I have a full support for Railway . Because this a public property and we should take care of it.Kindly make a survey or you have plan before me.
  • Dum Dum station area is in pathetic condition now. Since it a major railway junction so it shud b given equal importance like howrah and sealdah. Govt should try to convert this station into a world class station. Govt shud try to increase the number of platforms from 5 to atleast 7 or 8 as in future dumdum station wil have enormous traffic load....because both the sealdah and kolkata terminus bound mail, express & local trains of eastern railway will pass through this station. Moreover station facilities shud b improved lyk providing clean drinking water, well mainted and hygenic public toilets. More number of ticket counters, digital dispay for train timing and clean and well mainted subway connecting metro rail. As of now the subway is in dilapidared condition with poor people sleeping and making the station area very unhygenic. Govt shud provide proper homage to this poor people living in and around the railway station. We all should try to make our railway clean.....
  • Dumdum is the most important station in Kolkata. Number of trains is more than Sealdah north & Howrah. Numerous passengers take Dumdum daily. Nedd more attention to improve Dumdum. Rail Minister concentrate only improving Howrah. But Dumdum is still in dark. Automatic escalator, platform increase, new Ral line, CCR line(Dankuni) platform is needful. From Dumdum to Kharagpur local via Bgattanagar is urgent

But there's no place for this kind of expansion. The only way(i think) is to build this new platform near paikpara. Or the best way is an earthquake! hahaha!!!!!!! are you guys agree with me?
  • Dum Dum is a very important Jn. Station but immediately needs to be upgraded to cope up with a huge passenger pressure. There need be a separate platform for Bongaon/Hasnabad Section for smooth running of local trains. Only five platforms are not at all sufficient to cater such a frequent train service. Something should be done immediately, otherwise within a couple of years there will be a total bottleneck. Railway Minister is more concerned with fast implementation of Metro from Joka, its all right but EMU passengers should also be heard.
  • Can anyone tell me one question please, is there any local train (gallop) from Sealdah that doesn't have stop at dum dum jn, not mail or passenger, I asked about local emu, I have heard many years ago that there are some gallop trains that has 1st stop at barrackpore or shyamnagar. Is it true, if its true then please reply with local name and timing....asap.
