Bauxite mine owned by Compagnie de Bauxites de Kindia a subsidiary of Russia based aluminum producer Rusal.
The Compagnie des Bauxites de Kindia (CBK) began its mining operations as Office des Bauxites de Kindia (OBK) in 1974. OBK was created as a wholly state-owned enterprise but was transformed into limited liability company, Société des Bauxites de Kindia (SBK), in 1992 after it ran into serious financial difficulties. In 2001 SBK was transferred to a Russian conglomerate, RUSAL, for a 25-year term and it has since been operating as CBK. CBK has annual production capacity of 3.1 million tons of bauxite. It supplies
over 65 percent of its total bauxite output to the Nikolaev alumina refinery in Ukraine whereas the rest is exported to other locations.
