Vostok launcher (Moscow)

Russia / Moscow / Moscow
 monument, missile on display

Vostok launcher like the one used for Yuri Gagarin's flight.

All engines of this launcher use liquid fuel (originally, kerosene and liquid oxygen). All Vostok type spaceships, Luna-1 and Luna-2 Moon research stations and some of the Kosmos, Zenit, Meteor and Elektron satellites were launched with Vostok launchers. First launch was 21 August 1957. First artificial satellite, Sputnik-1, was launched 4 October 1957.

Both the missile and the rail carriage-supporter are real; the laincher lacks many important components though, as it was built as a test "mass-size model" only.

Once, this place was occupied by a statue of Joseph Stalin: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Bccb_stalin_1948.jpg
