Manguo ( the last syllable is pronounced as in 'Oh' means ."(the waters) of the hippopotamus" due to the animals that would stray out of the swamp at night in the olden days. The kiswahili name for hippo, Kiboko is celebrated by the naming of one of the high class hotels here: Kiboko Highway Motel.
