Holyoke Catholic High School, a coeducational private school founded in 1963, is now located on the site of the former Assumption School, a Catholic emelemtary school. The school has occupied several sites, and on August 28, 2008 held its first day of classes at the new location. The new campus involves an $11 million renovation of the former Assumption building and construction of a 32,000 square foot addition. As of February 2009, the WikiMapia photo shows only the construction in progress. The school's athletic teams are known as the "Gales," celebrating Irish heritage in the region the school serves.
