Fort Mutzig is not only an ancient fortification. Its still being used!
Divided in 2 parts; the first part is known as Quartier Moussy, homebase of the 44e régiment de transmissions (44th Comms Regt).
The 44th Comms Regt tasking is Electronic Warfare and the unit is specialized in detection, interception, localisation, analysis and identification of electronic transmissions.
The second part of Fort Mutzig hosts a SIGINT facility which in fact is one of the many intercept stations in the Echelon chain!
