Considered an upscale section of Shoreline. Before becoming part of the city of Shoreline, it was known as Richmond Highlands. It was always an unincorporated
suburb of Seattle.

  • *unincorporated

  • The Highlands is arguably the most prestigous private residential neighborhood in Seattle. Access is through a 24 hour guarded gate off a small unmarked lane. Many of the homes are architecturally spectacular and feature stunning waterfront views of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountain Range along with more privacy than one could ever ask for.
  • lots of snobs live there
  • gates keep out commonfolk
  • It actually has never been known as "Richmond Highlands." I believe that refers to another neighborhood in Shoreline.
  • I don't know about snobs but lots of rich people live there. The Highlands was first platted out in the late 1890s and there was a wave of building in the 1920s. The average lot size is around 2 acres. There are 100 homes, a preschool (open to the public), a chapel, pool and tennis courts. The Olmsted Brothers were responsible for the design of The Highlands and designed the landscaping for a fair number of the houses. Numerous Stimsons (from Stimson Lumber) built houses there including the enormous Norcliffe that is currently owned by an early Microsoft Alum. Names of people that have lived in The Highlands include Nordstrom, McCaw, Bagley-Wright, Fluke, McGavick.
  • One other thing, the outline on the map shows this area including the Seattle Golf Club. They are actually 2 separate entities with no formal relationship.
