Wat Traphang Ngoen TH วัดตระพังเงิน

Wat Traphang Ngoen, วัดตระพังเงิน, located 300 m. west of Wat Mahathat, this ancient temple is without a boundary wall. It is composed of the main chedi, an assembly hall (wihan or vihara) and an ordination hall (Ubosot or Ubosotha) in the middle of a reservoir.
The main chedi was built in the shape of a lotus bud with four niches to enshrine standing and walking Buddha images. These recesses are a striking feature which makes the chedi of Wat Traphang Ngoen different from other lotus bud shaped chedis.

East of the nain chedi, an ordination hall was constructed on an island in the middle of the reservoir named Traphang Ngoen. The construction of this ordination hall is in accordance with the concept known as Nadi Sima or Udaka Sima which means the enclosure of the precincts of an ordination hall within a wall or barrier.

Information from an historical marker at the temple.
