Thak Village

India / Uttaranchal / Tanakpur /

Thak village, made famous by Jim Corbett in his book "Maneaters of Kumaon", in this area he shot the Chuka maneater and the Thak maneater. Fantastic book. Since 2011 only one family is living in this village and the old houses are all invaded by the jungle. Pics taken on april 2016

It is a long walk from Thuligad to Chuka my friend, around 19 kilometres, From Chuka to Thak is another 3,50 kilometres of hard climb, very hard indeed! No roads, no eletricity it changed a litle since Corbett times. I was there last time in march/april 2016, fantastic trip.

Yes, Thak now is a abandoned village, very scary to walk through the ruins of the houses, a tiger kill four buffalos in Thak from a Chuka villager three months ago, if you go there by chance, take care.
