Mussel Picking Area

This is one of many areas around Kangirsujuaq that are good for mussel-picking. At low tide, local residents will walk along the exposed tidal flats and pick the plentiful mussels. One can often fill a gallon container with mussels without having to get up and shift your position.

During the winter months, Kangirsujuaq residents will actually drop into holes in the sea ice at low tide and pick mussels under the sea ice. It should be noted that this activity is extremely dangerous, and should never be attempted alone.
