Gencsapáti came into being through the amalgamation of Nagygencs and Gyöngyösapáti. Gencs was first mentioned in 1288, Apáti in 1328. The church of Nagygencs is dedicated to Apostle St. James, the one in Gyöngyösapáti to King St. Stephen. The most important attraction of the village is the former Széchenyi mansion, which is an orphanage today. Its park is a nature reservation area. The shrine in Szentkút is on the outskirts. Population: abt. 2500.
