Lafayette is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Guadalajara, surrounded by trees streets and ancient french neoclasic houses from the XIX century, Lafayette took his name from people who who founded the neighborhood, most of them from french ancestry, the main street of the neighborhood called Lafayette changed was a place for mingling and socializing with the elite from Guadalajara in those times, after the mexican revolution all streets from Guadalajara changed their names to adapt to a new general mexican identity, Lafayette also changed its name to "Chapultepec" honoring the ancient area in Mexico City. Nowadays in actual days the government in an attempt to bring back the esence and style from last days, call the place "Paseo Lafayette" in an effort to familiarize new generations to the "back to the roots" new movement, the place is also called sometimes "zona rosa" due to its many comercial and entertainment activities of the area where restuarants, cafés, museums, nightclubs, shops and galleries create along an unique atmosphere, however the reference of the "zona rosa" in Mexico City is heavily stigmatized for mexicans. Currently the area within Chapultec Avenue is starting a new construction of the project called "Chapultepec Incluyente" wich is the reorganization of the area to convert it in a new level of shopping, tourism and entertainment district.
