gate, place with historical importance, interesting place, 15th century construction

The Tiananmen is the main entrance to the Imperial City, the central part of Beijing. Although commonly referred to as the front entrance to the Forbidden City, that honour properly rests with the Meridian Gate. The Tiananmen is located along the northern edge of Tiananmen Square.

The gate has several life leases (1420-1457) (1465-1644) (1651-present). The Chinese government underwent a massive restoration in 1969-1970, because the gate was 500 years old and had badly deteriorated, partly due to heavy usage in the 1950s-60s.

The building is 66 metres long, 37 metres wide, and 32 metres wide. It has had a portrait of Mao Zedong since 1976.

  • Since I'm not actually IN China, I can say whatever I want to, and the Chinese government can't do a damn thing! ...This is only a test to see if the Chinese government ACTUALLY reacts to this posting: CHINESE DEMOCRACY! CHINESE DEMOCRACY!
  • JusLar, You are wasting your time, Wikimapia is not even allowed in China. No official will see this, even if they do see this by chance, what do you think they will do?
