Kennedy Park (Fall River, Massachusetts)

USA / Massachusetts / Somerset / Fall River, Massachusetts / South Main Street

Originally founded in 1868 as South Park, the land was purchased as part of the Durfee farm. In 1871, Frederick Law Olmstead was contracted to work on the original landscaping of the park. Baseball fields have been added since, as well as tennis/basketball courts and a pool near the bottom of the park. The east end of the park offers views of Mount Hope Bay and, on clear days, Providence can be seen in the distance. Prior to the 1990s it was the traditional site for watching the annual 4th of July fireworks.

The park was renamed for John F. Kennedy in the 1960s after his assassination.
