In the 1950s ,this used to be called TIBET HOUSE, and was the office and residence of the Tibet Trade Mission. Mr Nornang and his family lived here , and it was also here that he founded the Tibetan Cultural Association in 1960, now known as TIPA or Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts.

  • I have many fond memories of this place .
  • It was named Tibet House in the late 1940s after the Tibetan Govt.purchased it and had an office running for the Tibet trade mission. This house was originally called Fair Haven and to this day the name hangs above the front door.It was in this house that Mr.Nornang resided and also worked for the office until 1959. In 1960 His Holiness keeping in mind Mr.Nornang's skill at music (Nangma) and dance advised him to he start the Tibetan Cultural Association (now renamed TIPPA) I have my most happy childhood memories at Old Tibet House.
  • HH the Dalai Lama's car used to be stationed here ready for despatch to Tibet. Rana driver used to clean and service it regularly.
