 office building  Add category

5900 Wilshire is an icon – directly across the street from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (“LACMA”), it is a 31-story, 491,000 sq. ft., tower in a district that maintains a 7-story height moratorium. The tower can be seen from any direction in Los Angeles, and has totally unobstructed, 360 degree views of the city.

5900 Wilshire was designed by the legendary William Pereira in the late sixties as a companion to LACMA and shared its formal plan and water features. Completed in 1971, the building was originally developed for Mutual Benefit Life by The Shorenstein Company of San Francisco. The building was occupied by Mutual Benefit until their bankruptcy in 1991.

William Pereira wasn't so legendary nor was his career, save for one of his buildings, the Transamerica Pyramid in San Francisco. That's legendary.
