Located on the western end of Pacific Palisades, the Highlands is a series of home and condominium developments. The Highlands sits in the Santa Monica Mountains and many parts of it have ocean views--including Catalina Island. The area sits next to state park lands and there are numerous trailheads popular for mountain biking and hiking. The area was intially developed in the 1970's but saw most of it's growth in the 1980's and 90's. It is technically part of the City of Los Angeles.
